Error Tokens
Error tokens are produced at the mint when a machine or die malfunctions, a processing step was skipped, or a planchet of an incorrect composition or diameter was used (usually the result of a few planchets left in the hopper from a previous run of tokens).
Most of these tokens are unique (except perhaps tokens struck from cracked dies or dies that have doubling in the lettering or devices). Die rotation and misaligned dies occurred so frequently that, although they create errors, the tokens they produce cannot all be listed here. As of this time, tokens created from rotated or misaligned dies do not command a premium.
